At the beginning, there was wine. A drink which, over some years, became a great hobby and then a whole life passion to us. In a never ending quest to improve our wine knowledge and a desire to get more deeply into its mystery, the idea was born to invent a tool which would help people to answer often asked questions – what is the ageing potential, has this wine reached its best or would it be better to wait a bit or, even, is this wine still enjoyable or past its best?
The application is ideal for choosing the right wine to drink in a restaurant or when buying wine for home or as a present. However, this tool will also be valuable for wine collectors - there is the option to determine ageing within your own wine collection in the premium version.
The application is not to assess the quality of wines. It assumes that every wine has its ideal drinking time slot and tries to find it in the most accurate way.
Enjoy the time you spend with this tool, which was created from the heart of two wine lovers, and be in harmony with it!
The drinkability of a wine is marked by a scale from 1 (Not drinkable) to 10 (Ideal time for drinking) in the application. The scale works for the wine life from 0 ascending to 10 in the first half of the wine’s life while the wine is maturing and also from 10 descending to 0 while the wine is ageing. The wines marked 1 to 4 are not ready for drinking or, on the contrary, are past their best. A score of 5 to 7 means that those wines are suitable for drinking but their ideal time will come later or, on the other side, those wines are fading but are still enjoyable. The values 8 to 10 mean this is the ideal time for drinking!
When you choose the wine, the application shows the “tachometer of drinkability” for the actual state of that wine.
For Premium version users, the whole curve of drinkability development will appear so they can find out when the changes in drinkability are expected, for example when the wine reaches its peak.
In the Premium version, there is a Collection function. You can save your wine in this function, together with your comments, and set the application to remind you (via e-mail or in the App) when the wine reaches the desired level of drinkability. The list of saved wines with the actual state of drinkability can be exported into Excel.
Registered users can also set up whether less or more matured wines are personally preferred or whether you want to stick to standard drinkability. The Application then adjusts the curves according to taste preferences.
When setting a wine price level, you can choose from EUR, USD or GBP. The wine prices are standardly set by the regular retail price of the wine in the EU and there are also prices averagely charged in restaurants.
The restaurant prices are set differently for different countries, the user can choose the country
(standardly restaurant prices will relate to restaurant prices around home addresses).
You are not choosing from specific wines in the application but from so called “Regions”. The wines from respective countries are split into groups (regions) according to suitable criteria – place of origin, colour, variety, quality level etc. The searching is intuitive; you can input some of the data from the wine label and the application will offer you a range of choices from which you can choose the correct one.
The Authors expected that the wine maturation and ageing is possible to deduct from a combination of three factors. One of them is the “Region”, which is a combination of place of origin, variety of the grapes and, in some cases, a local quality level (e.g. Grand Cru in Burgundy).
The second factor is the vintage, which not only indicates the age of a particular wine but also the vintage quality which significantly influences its maturation. The third factor is the wine price. The wine price, in the highly competitive worldwide market, also indicates the quality of the wine and,
as is widely known, the quality of the wine influences its maturation. The current version of the application works with more than 5,000 different wine maturation options.

How to choose your wine
Type in the variety or the name of your wine; you can narrow the selection by choosing the country the wine originates from and whether it is red, white or rosé. If you are not sure of the exact name or variety of the wine, please type what you see on the label.
Select your wine from the options that appear under the search box.
How to choose the vintage
We are almost there, now you have to choose the vintage of your wine and price category. The vintage is relatively simple; when choosing the price, you have the option to specify it according to whether the wine was bought in a shop or in a restaurant.
How to choose the price
Prices in shops are average retail prices in the EU. If you buy the wine in a restaurant, please select the country where the restaurant is located. You can set this location in the profile section.
And now you can finally reveal the truth.
How to read the chart
On the diagram you can see if your wine is suitable for drinking. The numerical rating and colour scale serve as indicators.
If you want to change the price range, you can use positive or negative Euro currency symbols to increase or decrease the price.
How to read the graph
Related to the diagram is a graph that shows the drinkability of your wine in even more detail, because of a displayed timeline.
The number of years is displayed on the horizontal axis and the drinkability of your wine on the vertical axis.
What to do next
Now you have 3 options. You can start again, save the wine to Your Collection, or show recommendations related to your wine.
How to save your wine
You can change the name of your wine and add any notes. If you want to receive a notification when the wine has reached a certain value, press the bell symbol and select the value on the axis when you want to receive the notification. Now you are ready to save the wine into your collection.
How to sort your wine
In Your Collection you can search your saved wines or sort them according to various specifications. You can also download Your Collection to an excel file using the export icon. If you want to hide or show your notes, you can select the notes icon.
How to edit Your Collection
You can edit anything for each wine in the collection, just click on the pencil icon. You can also delete wines from the collection.
When creating or editing a profile, you must fill the following fields: name, first name, country, email and phone number. Other fields are optional.
How to customise my profile
Several features can be set in the settings. First, you can choose a taste preference depending on how mature or how young you prefer your wines. You can also choose the currency in which you want the price limits to be displayed. If you wish, you can also pre-set the country where you are visiting restaurants. This country is automatically written into the section where the wine price is selected. In the subscription area, you can set up and extend your subscription and view payment details at the same time.
The Winebestime team is working on the other wine countries and regions to add to the application. Additionally, photo label recognition is something under development currently and hopefully this will be ready soon.
